Every day this week I have walked by this sign, and snickered to myself how it seems a little cynical and dismissed it. I thought that this could be a blog but I didn’t feel I could make an interesting enough. I wonder if Jonah “felt” like going to Nineveh? I would say that the answer is a definite no. This led me to an epiphany that really shouldn’t be an epiphany. God didn’t ask for my buy-in, he asked for my obedience. In this case, the Spirit was speaking to me, but I was listening to my ego. My intention was to write an incredibly inspiring blog so that everyone would say “Wow, that was great!” Instead of writing a Spirit inspired blog that glorifies God. Oops! How could you possibly take “Trust in God, but lock your vehicle” and get a good message out of it? Well, lets find out with the help of the Spirit. Let’s start by looking at things from God’s perspective.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
If you diligently seek the Lord, you will grow spiritually in the gifts of the Spirit. These are found in 1 Corinthians 12 and they are wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, speaking in tongues and interpreting tongues. I would like to focus on wisdom.
Do you think that if you jumped out of an airplane without a parachute, God would intervene? I would say its highly doubtful. If God rewards those who diligently seek Him with wisdom, would you believe that a person that would make the choice to jump out of the plane without a parachute is truly seeking God?
Folks, I know it may seem crazy, but wise people lock their cars. Wise people study for tests. Wise people invest their money. Wise people make wise decisions for themselves and for their family. Wise people are sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and follow them. Wise people pray for discernment and wise people do what they are able to do and wait on God to do the things they aren’t able to do. God will bless the work of your hands, but wise people know your hands have to do some work first.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James1:5 NKJV
Solomon, King of Israel, asked God for wisdom and God provided it. His wisdom created great wealth and admiration. If you read the book of Ecclesiastes, you will find that for all his earthly blessings his conclusion to the meaning of life is to put God first and be obedient, everything else is futile and like chasing the wind.
As Christians, we have been challenged to bear good fruit. As we become more and more spiritually mature people should notice that you are wiser, more at peace and a host of other great characteristics and maybe they will want what you have. The best news is that they can have it too. All it takes is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior. Easy peasey…
