Finding Freedom in The Truth

If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed and you shall know the truth and the truth will make you free John 8

Jesus is classified as The Truth, The Way and the Life. Here Jesus suggests that through the word we will find freedom in the truth.  There are many truths that Jesus reveals to us in both the Word and through the revelation of the Holy Spirit

The first truth Jesus reveals is the truth about God. In the Old Testament, we see an angry and punishing God. Through the teachings of Jesus, the Father’s heart is revealed to us, we find out that he loves us and wants to bless us. He wants us to choose to love Him because He first loved us. His character is revealed to us through the actions of Christ. Jesus tells us through reading the gospels and getting to now Him, you are becoming familiar with God Himself.

In this world we are constantly hearing about truth, His truth, Her truth, My truth. Nothing could be farther from The Truth. There really is only one truth, and people may have different perceptions of it, but that does not change it. Jesus tells us that by abiding in His word we will be able to discern what is the truth in a world FULL of lies. Its as if we think that if we just could keep our head in the sand about the things going on in the world and it will not affect us. Recently, I have come to recognize that ignorance is not an excuse.  1 Peter 5 tells us that our adversary the devil roams around just watching and waiting for someone he can pounce on and destroy. If you will not stand in truth, you will probably fall for a lie.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children Hosea 4:6

Sadly, the final truth that Jesus reveals to us through the Holy Spirit is one that we often do not think of as a gift. This truth is the truth about ourselves. Who we are, how we treat people and what we do is of great importance to God. Facing the truth about ourselves is the hardest thing because of our fragile human ego. We do not want to believe we have flaws; we do not want to believe that we are wrong. Typically, these flaws are developed from the devil sowing seeds of lies and trying to devour you. The only way to fight a lie is with the truth, as they say sunshine is the best disinfectant

The blessing is that Jesus does not reveal anything we cannot handle, He does not reveal everything all at once and He does not leave you alone to deal with it yourself. Oftentimes the hardest things to do are the most rewarding in the end. He can set you free, if you let Him.
